These lovely old tinplate boats are becoming increasingly difficult to find in this stunning original condition, the paintwork is bright and shiny with only very slight rubbing in a couple of places right on the extreme edge of the deck and, based on others we've had, this is likely to have happened before it even left the factory.
The model comes complete with it's original box although this has some water staining, part of one end flap is missing and there are hand written amendments to various details on the sides - again, having seen others, these amendments are likely to have been added before the model left the factory.
In summary - I don't think this model has ever been used, the little flag, that so often gets lost, is still in the small brown paper bag, the Sutcliffe and Merlin decals are unmarked and, having tested the motor on a 3 volt supply, it runs beautifully.
For those interested in the history - these boats were produced by Sutcliffe Pressings Ltd of Horsforth, Leeds, England who first began with the manufacture of domestic utensils back in 1885. It wasn't until after the first world war that the company started making "toy boats" and Merlin, in production from 1963 until 1980, was one of the very last models ever produced.
