The name Brookite is synonymous with traditional kites. Founded by two brothers, Walter and Tommy Brooke in 1907, they originally offered their products for sale on English beaches from the back of a motorcycle before their business began to flourish.

In 1910 a Brookite was used by Marconi to hoist an aerial during one of his early, long distance, voice transmission experiments.
